Abilene- Crime on the Rise

The Abilene police department is getting back to normal policing and taking a step back from COVID-19 related calls.

Why? Crime is on the rise according to Chief Stan Standridge.

In April, aggravated assaults increased 35% over March.

"We had 23 aggravated assaults - nearly one every day," Standridge said.

We also had five robberies, five rapes, 37 burglaries, 12 stolen vehicles and 152 incidents of theft.

In the last 10 years, APD has reduced violent crime by 12%.

That includes things like murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and theft.

Standridge wants to continue the downward trend.
